This is certainly a bizarre piece of information that is coming your way! The title of this article may have shocked you or even amused you, but if a call center firm in Bangalore, India, has its way, this could be reality. The business outsourcing industry has been able to pull talent from many other industries like marketing and retail. Its obvious that the youngsters who join the call center firms do so because they can see unbridled opportunities. Now prison inmates would also be able to have a share of that growth and progress. If the BPO firm does it well, prisoners would be able to work for a firm while still serving their prison term.

The upper echelons of the call center we are talking about here decided that prisoners in the upwardly mobile cities have what it takes to work in a BPO. They have conducted surveys which threw up results that indicated that these prisons house able and potentially skilled manpower. Sensing a scope there, the firm plans to use these prisoners who have a certain educational background. They will not be part of answering services just as yet, but they would be doing other back office functions like data entry for bank records. This is a really unique concept that this business outsourcing firm is trying to put into motion. If this really happens, it could be a trend-setting move.

The prisoners have only to gain from this initiative of the call center firm. Left to themselves, they would earn very meager amounts of money on a daily basis. If they get to use their skills for the BPO work, their daily earnings would go up significantly. In fact, when they complete their prison term, they can use this experience to look for jobs as a full-time call center employee. Their time couldnt have been better utilized. There is no doubt that the prisoners are upbeat about such an opportunity coming their way. Sameer Chopra, an inmate of a prison in Hyderabad where the initiative will be unfurled, said, We are really excited! We would love to go for an opportunity like this! All credit must go to the BPO firm though.

But all is not hunky-dory for the call center taking the initiative. Any change is generally resisted by the peripheries. Clients of the business outsourcing firm are raising a hue and cry over the safety of their data. They are paranoid about convicted criminals having access to the data that forms the core of their business. The call center India that is working on this fresh drive is aware of the reservations and hesitations of their clientele. They assured the clients that they would choose the prisoners working on the project after a close scrutiny. None of the data would be made available to them. Moreover, prisoners who are convicted of theft or fraud would not be allowed to work on this BPO project. It would be really interesting to see how this pans out. If it does well, this will be the reason prisons in India would make a valuable contribution to the national GDP.
